Mike Strain, BA, BSc, MBA

Mike Strain is founder and President of MJS Management Services. He has more than 14 years of experience as an executive and 10 years of experience as a management consultant. He has wide industry and consulting experience with an impressive track record of implementing business performance improvements at a variety of organizations.

He advises the management teams of many precast industry participants. He has worked in an executive capacity in the industry and has extensive knowledge of the challenges faced by precasters. With his broad industry and consulting experience he knows the solutions that work and those that don't.

He was Vice President of a major precaster providing a full range of products from three plants in very competitive markets. In this role he implemented many improvements that resulted in significantly increased performance and profits. Some examples:

  • fine tuned the corporate strategy and created a focus on achievable goals
  • accelerated implementation of the strategy by clarifying roles and objectives
  • improved sales and operational results by introducing more accountability
  • decreased overheads and direct costs through productivity improvements
  • enhanced organization structure and strengthened management teams
  • upgraded, streamlined and standardized key processes
  • accelerated the use of information technology.

He was Vice President of a diversified public company with the mandate to modernize, upgrade and improve the performance of operating divisions and corporate functions. Business divisions included steel fabrication, composites manufacturing, composites distribution, coal industry services and crane services. He introduced changes leading to increased market share and profits in each of these businesses.

He was a Principal with KPMG Management Consultants (now BearingPoint) a global provider of management consulting services. While at KPMG he worked primarily with mid-sized manufacturing, distribution and service organizations to improve business performance. His focus areas were strategy, operations, information technology, process improvement, organization development and marketing.
